The above picture is a donated advertising card from the late 19th century.
Drawn by R. F. Outcault, the Yellow Kid, also known as Mickey Dugan, was the lead character in the comic strip Hogan’s Alley. He embodied the stereotype of a poor, uneducated immigrant child. Outcault used this image to create sympathy for the poor and expose the excessive consumerism and ignorance of the middleclass.
A great website to peruse more Yellow Kid images is http://www.neponset.com/yellowkid/history.htm
